Penninger, ErnstPenninger, Ernst, b. Salzburg, Oct. 9, 1919, archaeologist. Initially a civil servant of the municipality of Hallein (manager of the salt-mine railway), 1970 director of the Celtic Museum in Hallein and 1976-1984 archaeologist of the province of Salzburg. For his merits and publications was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Salzburg in 1974. Works: Hallein, 1970 (with G. Stadler); Der Dürrnberg bei Hallein, 3 vols., 1972-1978 (with F. Moosleitner a. o.).
