Came from a very poor family, earned her living first as a governess and companion, from 1850 was a freelance writer. Friendship with N. Lenau and A. Stifter, mentor of A. von Droste-Hülshoff, M. von Ebner-Eschenbach, F. von Saar and C. F. Meyer. Editions: Poems (selection and literary estate), ed. by M. v.
