Pandur


Pandur (pandour), 1) during the 17th and 18th centuries, the term pandur stood for a soldier in the Austrian army who came from the Slavic and Romanian parts of the empire (Military Border). The armed (life) guards of Croatian and Slovanian noblemen were also called pandurs. The well-known Pandur Corps was set up by Baron von Trenck in 1741 and transformed into the 53rd infantry regiment in 1756.

2) Pandur, the name of an armoured car developed and built by the Steyr works. It was introduced into the Austrian Federal Army in 1996.
