Pahlen, KurtPahlen, Kurt, b. Vienna, May 26, 1907, musicologist and writer. Student of G. Adler in Vienna, emigrated to South America in 1939, 1949-1972 professor at Montevideo University, then returned to Europe (Switzerland). Considered one of the most productive authors on 19th-century music. Specialised in the early musical education of children (e.g. workshops in the course of the Carinthischer Sommer Festival ). Works: Over 50 books, mainly about the great composers of the 19th century, also music encyclopaedias and general histories.
