Nowotny, HansNowotny, Hans, b. Linz (Upper Austria), Sept. 27, 1911, d. Steinbach (Lower Austria), Oct. 5, 1996, chemist. Studied in Vienna; 1941-1945 researcher at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für Metallforschung in Stuttgart. 1958-1977 university professor and Chairman of the First Department of Chemistry of the University of Vienna as well as professor at the Technische Hochschule (now Vienna University of Technology). 1977 emeritus professor; afterwards engaged in research at the University of Connecticut. Awarded the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art in 1978. Publications: over 500 scientific publications.
