Nowak, Heinrich


Nowak, Heinrich, b. Vienna, Jan. 26, 1890, d. Zurich (Switzerland), Aug. 12, 1955, poet, prose author and journalist. With R. Müller one of the most important authors of early Viennese expressionism, acquainted with O. Kokoschka and H. Flesch-Brunningen and others, member of the artists´ association "Die Katakombe". Published in numerous expressionist magazines; after 1918 journalist and reporter, 1939 emigrated to Switzerland.


Works: Die tragische Gebärde, 1913 (poems); Die Sonnenseuche, 1920. - Edition: Die Sonnenseuche. Das gesamte Werk, ed. by W. Ihrig and U. Janetzki, 1984.
