Nikolaus von Cues Cusanus, Kues, eigentlich N. Crypffs-Krebs


Nikolaus von Cues (Cusanus, Kues, real name: N. Crypffs-Krebs), b. Kues an der Mosel (Germany), 1401, d. Todi (Italy), Aug. 11, 1464, theologian, humanist. 1432 at the Council of Basle, 1450 Bishop of Brixen/Bressanone, came into conflict with Duke Sigmund of Tyrol, had to leave his diocese in 1458, was vicar general in Rome and papal legate. 1960 a Cusanus society was founded in Bernkastel-Kues.
