Neidhart Fuchs

Neidhart Fuchs, farcical novel compiled from authentic and spurious songs by Neidhart von Reuental in Vienna during the 14th century (printed in Augsburg around 1491). Its contents deal with Neidhardt´s peasantry feuds. Along with Neidhart´s grave and the Neidhart frescoes, Neidhart Fuchs is a very important document of the Neidhart legend rooted in Viennese popular culture.

Edition: F. Bobertag, Narrenbuch, 1884 (reprint 1964).

Literature: E. Jöst, Bauernfeindlichkeit, 1976.
