Naturdenkmäler


Natural Monuments, natural objects, especially single trees or groves, also rocks such as gneiss erratics, caves and waterfalls that have been declared natural monuments by the district administration because of their singularity, beauty, rarity, special shape or their scientific or cultural significance. These objects are registered by the provincial governments´ departments of nature protection and are marked with green signs. In 1994 there were 4368 natural monuments in Austria, of which: Burgenland 119, Carinthia 258, Lower Austria 1555, Upper Austria 509, Salzburg 243, Styria 864, Tirol 215, Vorarlberg 170 and Vienna 435.
