Museum für Völkerkunde, ÖsterreichischesEthnological Museum, Austrian (Museum für Völkerkunde, Österreichisches), in the Neue Burg (part of the Hofburg) in Vienna, up to1928 the ethnographical department of the Museum of Natural History. The oldest items on display were part of the collection of Archduke Ferdinand II of Tirol. The collection of exhibits of non-European culture from all continents comprises at present (1994) about 200,000 objects, which are displayed according to regions and themes. Changing special exhibitions, library with about 80,000 volumes, photo and picture archives. Publications: Archiv für Völkerkunde.
