Muehl, Otto


Muehl, Otto, b. Grodnau (municipality of Mariasdorf, Burgenland), June 16, 1925, painter, prominent figure of the movement that came to be known as Wiener Aktionismus. As an artist M. created mixed material paintings and objects made of rubbish, organized events involving various materials ("Versumpfungen" - "swampings") between 1960 and 1971. Later, little work as an artist; M. lived and worked at the Friedrichshof in Burgenland, an "action-analytical commune", which was broken up in 1990.
