Motorboating: 1952 the Motor-Yacht-Club Austria (MYCA) was founded under N. Zalateo, 1956 foundation of the Motorboat Sports Association for Austria (Motorboot-Sportverband für Austria, MSVÖ), which still exists today, with headquarters in Vienna (member of the Union Internationale Motonautique since 1957). Centres of motorboating in Austria are Vienna and the Salzkammergut region. In 1958, the first international major event held in Austria was the European championship, which took place in the Freudenau winter harbour in Vienna (winner R. Koch, Austria). In the 1960s the most successful Austrian motorboat sportsmen were D. Quester and D. Schulze, in the 1970s E. Zimmermann, later W. Weiland. Austrians who took part in many World and European motorboat championships have achieved considerable success and also established numerous world speed records. In 1994 the MSVÖ had 73 clubs with 3,200 members.
