Möll

Möll, Carinthia, north-western tributary of the river Drau/Drava, 70 km long, except for some short sections, very good water quality (class 1). The Möll is formed by the Pasterze Glacier, running off at the south-eastern foot of the Großglockner mountain (3,798 m), flows through the southern slope of the Hohe Tauern mountains and discharges near Möllbrücke (557 m). The upper part of the Möll, flowing southwards, abounds in waterfalls and gorges; the villages of Heiligenblut (1,291 m), Döllach (1,013 m, gold mining industry in medieval times, municipality of Großkirchheim) and Winklern (865 m) are located in this region. Average flow at Winklern: 8.1 m³/second. The central part of the Möll, flowing in north-east direction up to Obervellach (687 m), passing the villages of Stall (876 m) and Flattach (696 m, silver mining industry in medieval times), surrounds the Kreuzeckgruppe mountains, located in the south. It then changes its direction, flowing southeast into the River Drau/Drava, a small part of it flows through the Lurnfeld region. The villages of Oberkolbnitz and Unterkolbnitz (municipality of Reißeck) and Mühldorf (589 m) are located on its lower reaches.
