Messner, JosefMessner, Josef, b. Schwaz (Tyrol), Feb. 27, 1893, d. Salzburg, Feb. 23, 1969, composer, organist and conductor. Brother of Johannes Messner. 1922 organist at Salzburg Cathedral, from 1926 conductor at Salzburg Cathedral and conductor of the cathedral concerts at the Salzburg Festival; head of the Church Music Seminar in the Mozarteum. Awarded the Austrian State Prize 1936. Works: Operas: Hadassa, 1925; Das letzte Recht, without date; Ines, 1933; Agnes Bernauer, 1935. - Incidental music for H. v. Hofmannsthal´s "Jedermann" (Everyman), symphonies, music for festivals, compositions for the violin and the piano, masses and church music. - Editor of the collection "Alte Salzburger Meister".
