Tynec nad Labem, Czech Republic (then Elbteinitz), May 31, 1806; officer (general of the cavalry). During the Seven Years´ War adjutant of Field Marshal Count L. von Daun; during the wars against France from 1793 successful as commander of corps from 1793, further success in 1799 in joint campaign with Russian troops under General A. W. Suworow in Italy against French armies. On June 14, 1800 suffered heavy defeat against Napoleon at Marengo; subsequently commanding general in Bohemia until 1803. Literature NDB.
