Meister des Altars von Mauer bei MelkMeister des Altars von Mauer bei Melk, sculptor of the Danube School (Donauschule), worked in the first quarter of the 16th century. He is named after his main work, the altar at Mauer near Melk (around 1510-1515), a key work of sculpture of the Danube school. Attempts to identify and classify the altar have largely been unsuccessful; it is possibly the large winged altar (1510) commissioned by the monastery at Göttweig around 1472/73. Literature: 900 Jahre Stift Göttweig, exhibition catalogue, Göttweig 1983; T. Wirth, Der Altar von Mauer bei Melk, 2 vols., master's thesis, Vienna 1995.
