Meister der HeiligenmartyrienMeister der Heiligenmartyrien, painter, worked in Vienna in the late 15th century. Probably a pupil of the master of the Crucifixion triptych at St. Florian. He is named after two panels depicting deaths of saints, which are part of a larger altar, probably created for the monastery at Klosterneuburg (around 1495/1500, Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna). His details and his idea of space are remarkably realistic; his work also shows a vivid interest in physiognomies. He is regarded as the forerunner of the Danube school. Literature: E. Baum, Katalog des Museums mittelalterlicher österr. Kunst, 1971.
