Meisl, Karl, b. Ljubljana, Slovenia (then Laibach), June 30, 1775, d. Vienna, Oct. 8, 1853, civil servant and dramatist. Beside A. Bäuerle and J. A. Gleich one of the main representatives of Viennese popular comedy (Volkstheater) before F. Raimund. Parodist of serious dramas, operas and ballets.


Works: Carolo Carolini, 1801; Orpheus und Euridice, 1813; Amors Triumph, 1817; Der lustige Fritz oder Schlaf, Traum und Besserung, 1818; Die Fee aus Frankreich, 1822.
