Meinrad, Josef (real name: J. Moucka), b. Vienna, April 21, 1913, d. Großgmain (Salzburg), Feb. 18, 1996 Kammerschauspieler (1955). Until 1929 seminary for priests, then apprenticeship in business, finally actor. From 1936 performances at Vienna cabarets ("ABC", "Wiener Werkel", "Wiener Komödie"), after World War II at the Vienna Volkstheater and at the theatre "Die Insel"; 1946-1974 employed, after retirement as a guest at the Burgtheater (1973 honorary member). Character actor in comic and serious parts, in classical dramas and popular plays, mainly J. Nestroy and F. Raimund (Valentin in "Verschwender"), successful in musicals ("Der Mann von La Mancha"). Stage director, performances on radio, TV and in films (over 50 film parts). Numerous awards (including 1959 Iffland Ring, 1963 Kainz Medal). M. bequeathed the Iffland-Ring to the Swiss actor B. Ganz.
