Mayrhofer, ManfredMayrhofer, Manfred, b. Linz (Upper Austria), Sept. 26, 1926, linguist. Studied Indogermanic linguistics, Semitics and philosophy in Graz; habilitation in 1951. From 1958 university professor, 1962-1966 in Saarbrücken, 1966-1988 in Vienna. Worked throughout his lifetime on an Indo-European etymological dictionary. Awarded the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art in 1986.
