© Copyright Ignatz Mayer, photo around 1870 Mayer, Ignatz, b. Ofen (Budapest, Hungary), Oct. 19, 1810, d. Linz (Upper Austria), Aug. 31, 1876, industrialist. Founded the Linz shipyard in 1840 and after a journey to England (1837) began to build iron ships. 1873 sold the shipyard to the Allgemeine Österreichische Baugesellschaft. Literature: ÖBL; NDB.
