Mary of Burgundy (Marie de Bourgogne, Maria von Burgund) b. Brussels (Belgium), Feb. 13, 1457, d. Bruges (Belgium, in a hunting accident), March 27, 1482, first wife of Maximilian I (1477), daughter of Karl the Brave of Burgundy. With her marriage, the Netherlands and the Order of the Golden Fleece ("Orden vom Goldenen Vlies") fell to the Habsburg Dynasty. The world-wide Empire resulted from her son Philipp's marriage to Joanna of Castile.
