Aviano (Italy), Nov. 17, 1631, d. Vienna, Aug. 13, 1699, Venetian Capuchin friar, penitential preacher, missionary, diplomat. 1683 Papal legate to the relieving army during the second siege of Vienna by the Turks (see: Turkish Sieges of Vienna). Advocated open combat and unified the hesitant leaders through his fiery preaching (battle September 12, 1683).
