Mack, Karl, Freiherr von Leiberich© Copyright Baron Karl Mack von Leiberich, engraving Mack, Karl, Baron of Leiberich, b. Nennslingen (Germany), Aug. 24, 1752, d. St. Pölten (Lower Austria), Oct. 22, 1828, general. 1773 officer, 1789/90 in the war against the Turks, fought in the Netherlands in 1792, 1798 in command of Neapolitan army and in 1805 of the Austrian army at the Rhine. Capitulated October 20, 1805 with the latter at Ulm, court-martialled and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment. The duration of the sentence was reduced to 2 years by Emperor Franz I; rehabilitated in 1819. Literature: NDB.
