Lugmayer, Karl


Lugmayer, Karl, b. Ebensee (Upper Austria), Feb. 25, 1892, d. Vienna, April 16, 1972, adult educator and politician (Christian Social Party, Volksfront, Austrian Peoples´ Party, ÖVP). Teacher at a Grammar School from 1923 onwards, responsible for adult education in Lower Austria, from 1934 onwards for Vienna (Founded Jewish adult education classes). Christian-Social ideologist, contributed to the party programme, founding member of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) in 1945. 1945 Undersecretary of State in the office of Public Information, School and Education, 1945 to 1959 member of the Bundesrat, again active in adult education (Central Board of the Society for Popular Education in Vienna, adult evening classes for Fine Arts), philosophical publications.
