From 1955 member of the Vienna State Opera, was for decades one of the most famous singers in the world, particularly known for her roles in operas by W. A. Mozart, R. Wagner and R. Strauss. Performances at the Salzburg Festival, the Bayreuth Festival and the Metropolitan Opera in New York; also renowned as an interpreter of lieder (e.g. F. Schubert). Performed worldwide in all major opera houses. Publication: "... und ich wäre so gern Primadonna gewesen", 1994.
