Loosdorf


Loosdorf, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Melk, alt. 234 m, pop. 3,366, area 11.91 km2, at the lower River Pielach, at the southern border of the Dunkelsteiner Wald hill region, south-east of Melk. - Children´s home of the Schulschwestern (female religious educational order), waterworks; building block works (Ytong), metal-works, warehouse, regional planning office, manufacture of building materials (e.g. tile adhesives) with wholesale businesses. - 1574-1619 Protestant Mustergymnasium (model Gymnasium-type school), whose school regulations became famous; parish church built in 1587 as Protestant church, rebuilt in early Baroque style, massive tower from 1734, interior around 1730.
