Lipiner, Siegfried Salomo


Lipiner, Siegfried (Salomo), b. Jaroslaw, Poland (then Jaroslau), Oct. 24, 1856, d. Vienna, Dec. 30, 1911, narrative writer, dramatist, translator, journalist. From 1881 librarian of the Reichsrat, 1891 converted to Protestantism. Translated the Polish national epic, "Pan Tadeusz", into German.


Publications: Dramas: Prometheus, 1876; Renatus, 1878; Merlin, 1886; Adam Hippolytos, 1913; Der neue Don Juan, 1914. - Über die Elemente einer Erneuerung religiöser Ideen in der Gegenwart, 1878; A. Mickiewicz, Poetische Werke, vol. 1, 1882 (publisher and translator).
