Left-wing Socialists, Marxist party founded by E. Scharf in 1949 under the name of "Vereinigung Fortschrittlicher Sozialisten" (League of Progressive Socialists), from 1950 "Socialist Worker´s Party", split off from the SPÖ (Austrian Social Democratic Party); the Left-wing Socialists at first cooperated with the KPÖ - Austrian Communist Party (from 1953 Communists and Left-wing Socialists stood for Parliament on a joint slate) and joined the KPÖ in 1956.
