Liechtenstein Castle, Lower Austria, district of Mödling, castle visible over a long distance on hill at the eastern border of the Vienna Woods. Of the Romanesque building (documented mention 12th century) some parts from the 12th century still extant, ruin until 1808, rebuilt in Romantic style under Prince Johann I of Liechtenstein, 1873 restored. Chapel from the 2nd half of the 12th century, 1820-1822 enlarged in classicist style, 1945 severely damaged. Palace built in 1820 by Joseph Engel. Castle and palace are surrounded by a large park, which encloses the area of Mödling; many artificial ruins.
