Lieben, Robert von© Copyright Robert von Lieben, photo Lieben, Robert von, b. Vienna, Sept. 5, 1878, d. Vienna, Feb. 20, 1913, physicist and inventor. Nephew of Adolf Lieben. 1905/06 invented the amplifier thermionic valve named after him with magnetic control and in 1910 invented a glowing cathode ray tube with grid control (triode), both were essential in the development of radio and television technology.
