Leitgeb, Josef, b. Bischofshofen (Salzburg), Aug. 17, 1897, d. Innsbruck (Tyrol), April 9, 1952, poet, narrative writer, essayist. 1925 doctor of law, teacher at the village school and at a secondary modern school. Joined the circle around the magazine Brenner, Der", 1921, where he first published poems. His work is mainly autobiographical and describes his native home. Awarded the Grand Austrian State Prize in 1950.
