Laterns


Laterns, Vorarlberg, municipality in the district of Feldkirch, alt. 921 m, pop. 729 (in 1981: 608), area 43.79 km2, small tourist resort (47,372 overnight stays) in the Laterns valley, Oberland region. - Sports hostel for young people, conservation area on the Furkajoch saddle (1759 m); wood processing. - New Gothic parish church St. Nikolaus with Gothic choir in Thal, consecrated in 1502, Baroque alterations in 1673, late Gothic stained-glass windows (1507), baptismal font and tabernacle (1509); some farms of the Walser people with Paarhöfe dating from the 17th and 18th centuries; in the vicinity, Üble Schlucht gorge.
