Landsturm


Militia (Landsturm), comprised all men fit for military service who did not serve in the army or in the navy, Landwehr militia or replacement reserves, to fight foreign invasions. Tirol already had a Landsturm regulation in 1511, which dates back to the "Innsbrucker Libell", was renewed several times and was invoked in the rising of the Tirolean peasants in 1809. In Austria-Hungary service in the Landwehr militia was compulsory for the 1st contingent from the age of 19 to 37 and for the 2nd contingent from the age of 38 to 42. Landwehr.
