LandammannLandammann (Alemannic form of "Amtsmann"), old title which still exists in Switzerland today. It was used in Vorarlberg until 1806. The Landammann was the highest official of the "Niedergerichte" (lower courts) of the domains (Bregenz, Feldkirch, Neuburg, Bludenz) in Vorarlberg, as the highest judge, had the judicial power over life and death and the prerogative of mercy. Chairman of the councillors and deputies in the legislature (Bezegg Pass). The Landammann in Vorarlberg was elected every year, later every second year. Abolished when Vorarlberg came under Bavarian rule.
