Lackenbach


Lackenbach, Burgenland, municipality in the district of Oberpullendorf, alt. 313 m, pop. 1,101, area 18.11 km2, situated at the southern foot of the Ödenburg Mountains. First documentary mention in 1222; new parish church (1962), castle (1548-1552, formerly moated castle) of the Esterházy dynasty, Jewish cemetery (18th - 20th centuries), cenotaph (1623) for commander M. Tarrody, who was killed in the battle of Lackenbach (1620); traditional Fahnenschwingen (flag waving) in Neckenmarkt on the Sunday after Corpus Christi day. Roma memorial for the victims of the National-Socialist concentration camp (1940-1945).
