Lach, Robert


Lach, Robert, b. Vienna, Jan. 29, 1874, d. Salzburg, Sept. 11, 1958, musicologist and music ethnologist. From 1911 head of the Music Collection of the Court Library, 1920-39 Professor at the University of Vienna, 1924-45 also Professor of the History of Music at the Vienna Academy of Music and Performing Arts, one of the leading representatives of comparative history of music. Left his works to the Austrian National Library, Vienna.


Works: Vergleichende Musikwissenschaft, 1924; Gesänge russischer Kriegsgefangener, 3 vols., 1926-1952; Geschichte der Staatsakademie und Hochschule für Musik in Wien, 1927.

Literature: Festschrift R. Lach, 1954 (with bibliography); NDB.
