Kraus, Wolfgang, b. Vienna, Jan. 13, 1924, d. Lienz (Tyrol), Sept. 19, 1998, essayist and cultural journalist. After a career in publishing founded the Austrian Society for Literature Österreichische Gesellschaft für Literatur in 1961 and was its head until 1994. 1975-1981 Head of the Cultural Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Numerous literary broadcasts for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF), edited anthologies of works by e.g. O. Wilde, F. Nietzsche and Novalis. A.-Wildgans Prize, 1979; and Austrian State Prize for Cultural Journalism, 1983.
