Graz (Styria), Aug. 26, 1930, studied law; politician (ÖVP, Austrian People's party), son of Josef Krainer sr. 1956-1962 Secretary-General of the "Katholische Aktion" organisation in Styria, 1966 Vice President and 1969 President of the Styrian Farmers' Federation. 1970-1971 member of the Nationalrat, 1972-1996 Provincial Chairman of the ÖVP, 1971-1980 Landesrat of Styria (with responsibility for agriculture and forestry, among other things) 1980-1996 Landeshauptmann of Styria. advocated a political course independent of federal politics for his province and party.
