Koppers, Wilhelm, b. Menzelen (Germany), Feb. 8, 1886, d. Vienna, Jan. 23, 1961, ethnologist, priest of the missionary order Societas Verbi Divini. University professor in Vienna, established the University Department of Ethnology. 1921/22 expedition to Tierra del Fuego (together with M. Gusinde), and 1938/39 to Central India. Lived in Switzerland 1940-1945.


Works: Unter Feuerland-Indianern, 1924; Geheimnisse des Dschungels, 1947; Die Bhil in Zentral-Indien, 1948; Der Urmensch und sein Weltbild, 1949. Editions: Anthropos, 1924-1932; Wr. Beiträge zur Kulturgeschichte u. Linguistik, 1930ff. (founder).
