Kont, Paul, b. Vienna, Aug. 19, 1920, d. Vienna, Dec. 26, 2000, composer. Also pianist and conductor; developed a new form of tonality ("Third Tonality", on the basis of non-tempered tuning). Awarded the Austrian State Prize for Music in 1964.


Works: operas (Lysistrate, 1961; Traumleben, 1963), oratorio (Vom Manne und vom Weibe, 1979), symphonies, orchestral and piano works, dancing plays (Annoncen, 1956; Daphnis und Chloe, 1987), film and incidental music, lieder (120 songs on poems by Eichendorff, also set works by J. Weinheber etc. to music). - Theoretical works: Antianorganikum, 1967; Entwurf einer Neuen Tonalität, in: Melos 1971/1972.
