Kolpingwerk, Österreichisches

Kolpingwerk, Österreichisches (Kolping Society of Austria), founded by A. Kolping in 1852 as a "Catholic Association of Journeymen", the Kolpingwerk is now the largest private operator of homes and hostels in Austria (7,500 beds) and is also engaged in social work. It organises small self-help groups (e.g. for disabled people, women in need of help, reformed alcoholics, drug-addicted girls, homeless people, refugees). In Austria there are about 70 regional Kolping societies, which are organised in diocesan associations and one central administrative body.

Publications: Österreichisches Kolpingblatt.
