Knight of Malta, bishop of several towns in the Habsburg Empire (1660 Neutra, 1670 Wiener Neustadt, 1685 Raab); 1686 Cardinal, 1695 Archbishop of Grau and Primate of Hungary. 1672 also President of the Hungarian Court Treasury, 1692 Minister of State, Minister of Conference; gained acclaim in the 2nd Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683. His monument stands in front of Vienna Town Hall. Literature: NDB.
