Kirchberg am WaldeKirchberg am Walde, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Gmünd, alt. 575 m, pop. 1,520, area 37.78 km2, situated in the headwater region of the River Thaya to the southeast of Gmünd in the northern Waldviertel. - Woodworking; - Baroque parish church (1709-1713); castle (documented mention in 1172, re-designed in Baroque style around 1600) with a chapel (dome fresco by J. G. Schmidt); former All Saints Hospital (1715-1719) with Spitalskirche (a hospital with church dating from 1715-1719); pillory and Trinity column (both 1714); gallows (1743); House of the Hamerling Foundation, built between1891-1893 on the grounds of the house in which R.
