Kinderfreunde, ÖsterreichischeKinderfreunde organisation, Österreichische: founded in 1908 by A. Afritsch; it was affiliated to the Social Democratic Workers´ Party, dissolved in 1934 and re-established in 1945; the Kinderfreunde wanted to introduce more democracy and social rights into schools ("free school"). Several Social Democratic politicians active in education policy have a Kinderfreunde background. (in 1999: 180,000 member families).
