Kautsky, BenediktKautsky, Benedikt, b. Stuttgart (Germany), Nov. 1, 1894, d. Vienna, April 1, 1960, socialist writer and theoretician; son of Karl Kautsky. Secretary of O. Bauer, 1921-1938 secretary of the Vienna Chamber of Labour, 1938-1945 concentration camp, 1945-1950 in Zurich, 1950-1958 head of the O. Möbes school of economics of the Chamber of Labour in Graz, 1958 deputy director general of the Creditanstalt-Bankverein bank, university lecturer in Vienna. Contributed significantly to the party programme of the SPÖ in 1958 (author of the preliminary draft). Works: Der Kommunismus, 1921; Teufel und Verdammte, 1946 (concentration camp memoirs); Amerikas Arbeiter im Vormarsch, 1951; Geistige Strömungen im österreichischen Sozialismus, 1953.
