KarKar, Kaar (Old High German i.e. "vessel", also: corrie or cirque), amphitheatre-shaped basin with precipitous walls in high mountain regions, usually the result of erosion by a glacier during the ice age. The bottom is often a shallow basin, which may contain a lake ("tarn", or "Karsee" in German).
