Limestone, most important raw material for the building industry. For centuries, cut and polished limestone has been important for the production of decorative stone (marble) in Salzburg (Untersberg marble, Adnet marble), in Carinthia (Krastal marble), in Styria (Sölk marble), in Lower Austria (Spitz marble) and in the Tirol (Kramsach marble). Today pulverized limestone is a very important industrial product which is used as a filling material in the paper, plastics and paint industry. In 1993, 127 limestone works were under the supervision of the Austrian mining office. Output: 19,630.272 tonnes of raw limestone.
