Vienna, Aug. 28, 1942, Archduke of Austria, son of Grand Duke Ferdinand IV of Tuscany. Officer's training, 1911 field marshal lieutenant, from 1914 commander of a large group of the 4th army of the Dual Monarchy, he assumed command at the end of the year and had to resign again in June 1916 because of a serious defeat ("Brussilov-Offensive"). 1917 Air Force Chief of Staff of the Dual Monarchy. After the end of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy he signed the declaration by which the House of Habsburg renounced all participation in government and lived in Austria to his death.
