Jonke, Gert Friedrich


Jonke, Gert Friedrich, b. Klagenfurt (Carinthia), Feb. 8, 1946, d. Vienna, Jan. 4, 2009, writer, 1966-1970 diverse studies (including music, German language and literature, history, philosophy), afterwards many journeys and stays abroad. J. creates his texts according to formal compositional principles ("Geometrischer Heimatroman", 1969). While still pursuing the question of the possibility of happiness in his "Schule der Geläufigkeit" (1977), his "Erwachen zum großen Schlafkrieg" (1982) consists of a series of absurd stories of people who fail in life. Awarded the I. Bachmann Preis in 1977, and the E. Fried Preis in 1997.
